Oh dear, I sure have been neglecting this blog! My life has been so busy lately and if you read my personal blog, you know that I've been on a cleanse and intense exercise routine. That along with school, homework, teaching, and the office...there hasn't been time for much of anything! I did manage to relax for a few hours on Sunday and go shopping downtown! I had to exchange an Olympic hoodie I got for Christmas & was surprised that I thought a lot of The Bay's Olympic gear was actually really cute! I ended up with the grey CANADA zip up. I also scored a gorgeous blue Zachary Smile dress from True Value Vintage...for only $20!!! I'm going to wear it out for dinner this weekend for sure! It was fun acting like a personal stylist for Adam who found a white button up for work as well as a new pair of jeans.

My roomies & I had a Christmas house party on the 23rd with all our friends. We turned our living room into a dance floor again and everyone brought yummy treats to snack on. After a few drinks, I felt it was an opportune time to test out my faux fur hat.

Everyone kept petting my head and saying I looked Russian. So I spent the night working on my Russian accent! It was super fun and great to see everyone before the Christmas madness.

#7: Fashionable Movies

Though Valentino is actually from 2008, it was late to be released here in Canada. I purchased Valentino, but have yet to actually watch it. I'm ashamed to say that I did put it in my dvd player one evening, and I neglected to pay any attention to it at all. I think I was studying...

Have any of you fashionistas seen The September Issue? I missed it in theatres (curses!) but I am buying this one as soooon as it hits stores on DVD!!!! I've read all the great reviews and watched the trailer about a million times....how on earth did I miss it?!

I went to see this with my co workers about a month ago and it was such a fantastic movie. I definitely recommend it! Audrey Tautou is so lovely and a great Coco. I actually looked up Coco Chanel on Wikipedia after seeing the movie and there was a ton about her that I didn't know (like some Nazi drama). She is so fascinating & her outfits the entire movie will greatly inspire you!

I'm just at my parent's house in the suburbs and blogging in between presents & dinner. I apologize for my photo's quality lately. I got a new camera and hadn't taken the time to figure out settings etc., but I think I have things sorted out now!

Adam's company took us all to Whistler last weekend for their Christmas party. It was tres fantastic, they put us up at the 4 Seasons and we had a big dinner/dance on the Saturday night. I even saw Queen Latifa & her girlfriend...I only said hello though. My camera batteries had died...oh the irony!

The dilemma every year is what on earth do I wear to someone else's work Christmas party? I ended up playing it safe with a sexy detail like lace, but in a very conservative style. There are always those girls, however, who miss the memo on class and show up in their barely-there clubbing dress (and cheap heels). I think it is more about looking effortlessly fabulous. You have to know your audience!

I call that picture The Craft in honour of its eerie tones and the 1996 movie.

#8: Revenge of the Nerds

I love the fact that fashion is so versatile & that you can take on almost any persona you wish. This year it seemed as though everyone was embracing their inner-nerd with large, thick framed glasses. I must say, there is something so sexy & intriguing about nerd glasses.

#9: A world gone Plaid
(The Hot List 2009 is a list of the 9 biggest trends of the year.)

Farmers, lumberjacks, & Al Borland were rejoicing this year, because it seemed as though evvvvverything was plaid! Hats, coats, shirts, scarves, dresses, shoes, bags, hair accessories, my goodness...you name it, it was available in plaid.

I made a few investments in classic plaid button ups myself, but opted not to go too mad for plaid. I also didn't want to show up to a hipster party and be wearing the same shirt & skinny jeans as a guy...not like that has happened to me before or anything....

An innovator? Who knew?!

Okay, I have a confession to make. I don't watch Gossip Girl.
I know, I know...I can practically hear you all gasping at your computer, but it's true. It is a great way to get style inspiration because they all dress so damn well, but I don't think I can handle hours of Chuck Bass giving everyone the stink eye.

Even though I don't watch it, I also don't live under a rock so I can recognize when something looks Gossip Girl inspired. I always associate GG with headbands because those girls pretty much started the headband craze of 2009.

I got this particular headband from my co workers when they were on a buying trip in LA. I am but a poor fashion student, so I was not invited to go but they brought me this little accessory back from J.Crew. It's really cute...like wearing a black cream puff on my head!

The dress I'm wearing is actually an old Kensie dress from a few years ago, but the lace overlay is very hot right now. Everything this holiday season is sequins and lace! I paired the dress with a cute little jacket from MissMe Couture. I think I might wear this again on Christmas Day with my family. The touch of red in the dress seems like the perfect Christmas outfit!

We just got these dresses in at work and I am so obsessed with each and every one! They are by Max & Cleo, which is a division of the BCBG group (can you not tell from the first dress?!!)

I can't decide which one to get, I'm thinking it's a tie between the first dress and the fourth dress. Although the last dress is super adorable too!

Confessions of a Shopaholic...Christmas Shopping

I will reluctantly admit that when I watched Confessions of a Shopaholic there were many similarities between Rebecca Bloomwood and myself. It is an addiction that so many fashionistas can relate to, which explains the success of Sophie Consella's Shopaholic book series. I feel the same obsession over items that I deem as must-have. I also feel like I can't repeat outfits. I get anxiety about items that I don't purchase, or on the contrary I get buyer's remorse after impulse purchases. My bank account is always drained and the concept of saving money seems to be a thing of the past.
I have learned to somewhat control my addiction by simply not going shopping. The mere exposure to malls & boutiques proves to be too much for my self control to fight & I end up wanting everything I see.

This is why the holiday season is especially hard for me. Sending me into a mall is like sending a caged animal into the wild. It seems as though every present I buy for someone else, I also buy something for myself. But, come on...the sales right now are ridiculous! Though I knocked 4 people off my Christmas list this weekend, I also ended up with 2 new pairs of shoes, a winter coat, a bathing suit, jeggings, a scarf, & some new jewellery. I clearly have a problem.

The first pair of shoes were only $35 at Aldo and will look adorable with thin socks or with dresses in the Spring.

The second pair looks JUST like these from Free People that I'd been ogling since August. I have been wanting OTK boots for a very long time and I found these chocolate brown beauties at Winners for half the price of the FP ones. I am considering returning them though because I feel like I don't know what to wear with chocolate brown? Most things I own are black and I just have this thing about black and brown together.

I'm supposed to be going to Metrotown tomorrow evening to help a friend do some Christmas shopping. Lord help us all.

Girls Night Out

On Friday I handed in the 51 page marketing plan I'd been working on since September. It was a group project with 5 others, so you can only image the headache I had to endure to make sure it was done (& done right). That night some girlfriends and I went out for some drinks and eats to celebrate the end of the semester, and the fact that I FINALLY have a camera again!

The whole idea of the outfit was that I wanted to wear a lace corset underneath this sheer cream & black blouse, but it proved to be a little too scandelous! So I opted for a simple black cami and tucked both into my lovely high waisted capris from London. I also wore my new earrings from Wal-Mart...yes, Wal-Mart! You just never know where you'll find a cute piece of jewellery!

This is my stylish friend Brandi. She tucked a black tunic into an FCUK dress (that she made into a skirt) with a vintage blazer over top. I think it looked great, especially the pop of colour in the skirt!

Here in Vancouver you can never have too many pairs of boots or warm winter coats. I found this cocoon coat at Front & Co. on Main Street a few weeks ago and absolutely love it! The cocoon shape is unlike anything else in my wardrobe & I feel so vintage glam everytime I wear it. I tested out some purple lipstick this time. Lip colour is my new obsession!

The shape of the coat is much like this one Rachel Zoe is rocking...I die!

This extremely cold weather means fall is ending and winter is almost here! A small part of me is excited for some snow, it makes for such a romantic atmosphere.

birthday celebrations

I bought this dress back in August and justified my purchase by saying I'd save it until my birthday. There was one close call when I insisted I had absolutely NOTHING else to wear except this dress, but I kept my promise and saved it for such a special occasion. I can't stand scrambling around shopping for "the perfect dress". It was so much easier having one all ready to go in my closet!

The dress is from Barefoot Contessa (Main St & Commercial Drive) paired with red lips, dark purple nails, simple diamond earrings, & a butterfly ring from Forever 21. The next time you want to go out dancing in Vancouver, I highly recommend Fortune Sound Club. It is a great venue...exactly the kind of club this city was in desperate need of.

It remains a mystery why alcohol makes me think that making ridiculous faces will translate well in photos?!
